I’m not someone who gets overly sad about summer’s end. For me, in terms of cooking anyway, fall is my happy place. I love the flavours of fall: vegetables like apples, pumpkin and sweet potatoes. And the intense colour of those autumn veg are like an advertisement for how good they are for you. Any recipe using them will give you an extra dose of vitamins C and A (particularly great moving in to cold and flu season). But the real reason I love fall for cooking is that I don’t feel like I’m missing out on anything else while I’m doing it. By the time I’m home and getting dinner started, it’s pretty chilly and maybe even – gasp – getting dark. So, no one is whining for another half hour at the park. In fact, the kids are more keen than ever to join me in the kitchen. Why not go with it? Get cozy in the kitchen with our favourite fall meals (plus one dessert we can stop thinking about).
Our two other favourite fall recipes:
Pumpkin and Sage Cannelloni: A delicious, savoury way twist on fall’s favourite squash.
Sweet Potato Mac & Cheese: The best. Mac and Cheese. Ever.
Apple Upside Down Cornmeal Cake
This is impressive enough to serve to guests, but easy enough and low in sugar enough to eat every weeknight!
